Strategy 2023: Allocation of funding to integrate climate and sustainability issues in programmes and courses

Purpose
UCPH students should have knowledge of how they can help to resolve climate and sustainability issues and contribute to the sustainable transition in society. In this context, the joint UCPH Project: "UCPH's Sustainable transition" has allocated funding to help promote that more programmes include climate and sustainability challenges in teaching. Focus is on the development of cross-disciplinary and inter-faculty educational activities.
Apply for funding to develop teaching content
Climate and sustainability issues are complex and should primarily be resolved across disciplines and in collaboration between different sectors. The project aims to support students' skills in collaborations across disciplines.
Funding is available to design new curricular educational activities or to innovate existing curricular activities focused on integrating climate and sustainability issues and theory. The activities must contribute to increasing the diversity, accessibility and quality of the course offering across UCPH.
You can apply for funding for developing collaborations on curricular educational activities that transcend two or more faculties or departments.
This could be a series of workshops on climate and sustainability issues, which can be followed by students across different courses or by students doing their BA project or master's thesis. Or, for example, it could be an innovative co-teaching scheme of existing curricular educational activities across faculties or departments. Collaborations across faculties must be adapted to study year and timetable structures in the University's inner market.
The funding for designing curricular educational activities can, for example, be used for:
• Hiring part-time academic staff who can support faculty staff in designing the educational activity
• Administrative support of contact with external parties
• Completing/upgrading the educational activity, for example materials, excursions, catering etc.
Funding is not granted for educational activities which can only be carried on with continued financial contribution.

The Sustainability Science Centre's steering committee will consider the applications received by the following criteria:
• The educational activity must contribute to ensuring that more students acquire knowledge about strategies or approaches that will contribute to resolving society's climate and sustainability issues.
• The educational activity must be curricular or co-curricula, i.e. students should obtain ECTS credits for participating in the educational activity.
• The educational activity must transcend two or more faculties or departments.
• The educational activity must be new or an innovation of an existing activity.
• Educational activities that are offered more than once will be prioritised.

In addition, the Sustainability Science Centre will select the educational activities which, taken together:
• broadly cover the University's faculties, departments and other units.
• broadly cover a wide range of issues within climate and sustainability.
• The application must be approved by the study board and the associate dean for education or the head of department.
• Applications must be submitted via the application form
• The application may not exceed two pages.
• Applications must be sent to sustainable@ku.dk. Write “Application for educational activity" in the subject line.
• Applicants who receive funding are obliged to submit a written report and present their results and experiences, for example in workshops under the project.
• The steering committee for the Sustainability Science Centre will consider the applications received.
• In accordance with legislation and the practice of the Danish Council for Independent Research, steering committee members are allowed to apply for funding in the years when they are members of the steering committee. Steering committee members who are deemed to be disqualified are exempted from assessing the application(s) concerned.
• The funds will be distributed at the beginning of 2023.
