Mikkel Vad modtager international pris

Pris

Adjunkt Mikkel Vad ved Institut for Kunst- og Kulturvidenskab (IKK) modtager pris for artikel.

Adjunkt Mikkel Vad har modtaget prisen "2025 Best Essay in Popular Music Scholarship" fra The Popular Music Study Group of the American Musicological Society for artiklen "Whiteness and the Problem of Colourblind Listening: Revisiting Leonard Feather's 1951 Blindfold Test with Roy Eldridge", udgivet i tidsskriftet Twentieth-Century Music.

Priskommitéen udtaler:

"In a superbly written piece on the well-known but undertheorized jazz 'blindfold tests,' Vad shows how Feather's supposedly colorblind method erased Eldridge's lived experience of structural racism. The article demonstrates that this detached listening was anything but neutral – it centered whiteness while discrediting Black testimony. Vad shows how this ideology of colorblindness remains with us today. Throughout, his voice is incisive yet inviting, keeping critical teeth without tipping into polemic, and guiding readers through a difficult history with clarity, care, and authority. This essay sets a high bar for popular music scholarship and its public relevance."

Artiklen er udgivet som open-access via midler fra Københavns Universitetsbibliotek.
