In this workshop artists, duodjars, and researchers come together to discuss the role of art and doudji in the making and unmaking of communities in Sápmi. Sámi aesthetic practices have been central to processes of cultural revitalization, political resistance, history writing, spirituality and as bridges to surrounding societies over the last many decades. Is there a need to rethink the relationship between art and community? What enriches and vitalises democratic participation and what political questions need to be addressed in order to make a liveable future for all? How can cultural festivals, such as Jokkmokk Winter Market, contribute to these processes? And what role does the Winter Market have for artistic practice and the life of Sámi duodji? These are some of the questions we will be thinking about in this informal roundtable conversation, open for all.
